An empty house on a rocky slope, its ochre wall split by a long vertical crack, seen from below through a screen of thin trees. Pale rock and scrub fill the lower half of the canvas; the sky above is a dense, worked blue.
Forms are simplified into faceted planes of colour, with the house and the rock given the same weight as the trees. The composition is tall and compressed, the house pushed into the upper half so that the crack becomes the painting's central line.
