A wicker basket heaped with strawberries on a plain grey ground. The fruit is set down in quick dabs of red and orange with touches of white for the highlights; a few leaves show at the edges of the basket, and the basket itself is brushed in with a handful of dark, wet strokes.
The canvas is small and direct, the background left soft and empty. It has the immediacy of something painted in a single sitting.
